christmas decoration

christmas decoration

This is the christmas display at the Galleries La Fayette. I thought the designers did a good job on arranging the decorations and they utilized the space very well. I liked how they arranged the display exactly in the centre of the building, on top of one of the cosmetic boutiques so that the visitors can have a good view. It was nice how the little figures rotates around the tree.

Compact Appartments – Price D.

Compact Appartments

I chose these photos in relation to our upcoming project, researching apartments and in what ways we can create the most compact and livable areas comfortably.
I enjoyed these box apartments and how they created a bottom living space by attaching the bed to the ceiling. fairly simple concept.
But it gives many open ideas to creating a living upstairs in a 5m high room.
fold-able kitchen and restroom. etc… Researching and gathering ideas.

Ikea Design

Ikea Design

I chose this photo as inspiration for our future project in designing multiple places in a 20m apartment and also our talk about the Ikea design.
This is the couch/bed/storage in my apartment that I bought this past semester because it served as all three of those things. Also because it can switch positions (sides) depending on the size, or arrangement of your apartment.

Les Berges de Seine

les emmarchements des berges de Seine

I have seen the works that have been going on all around the sides of the Seine (mostly on the rive gauche) for the past year, but didn’t know what they actually were for until I came back this summer. Now mostly finished, there have been built series of really cool facilities for the Parisians to enjoy.

Called just “Les Berges”, they are divided into 3 parts: Port de Solferino, Port des Invalides and Port du Gros Caillou, and they can also be explored on their really, really well made website. (www.lesberges.paris.fr)

On the Berges you can enjoy the various activities (such as dance classes, sport competitions and games) and other events that they plan along the whole year, enjoy some of the small cafes and burger trucks that have been placed around, or just chill on those cool wooden staircases and benches. Unfortunately, due to the shitty weather of the last past weeks, parts of the Berges have been flooded, but they do have plans of placing ice-skate rings and similar stuff for the winter season. Hopefully it stops raining and it will actually be done…

Inside-Out & Happy Smokers

Image

What I love in Paris, as a smoker, are the terrasses during winter. Poor us, condemned to smoke in the coldness, under the rain or fighting against the wind (sometimes even the tree in the same time, I mean, hell). But In Paris, the inside out system of the cafés allows people to stay outside, but with the comfortable hotness of the place, you have your table, no need to leave your non-smoker friends, under a sweet “réchaud”. And cherry on the top of the cake, a nice plastic “bache” protects you from the weather. Like you were inside, but outside.

Thermopyles

Promenade à Paris XIVe.

Metro Pernety or Alesia, rue des Thermopyles.

I choose to show that street, because it is fresh and shows the multiple faces of Paris. A bubble of fresh air inside the crowded city, and it is quite surprising how the ambiance change when you quit the main street to get lost in that amazing nature maze.

Renault Twizy

Renault Twizy

I have seen these around Paris. They are a more economical and environmentally friendly option of transport rather than a car. This of course is targeted for a very specific audience: a person who would travel by car but only needs to transport them and up to another person and does not need to go far distances as the Twizzy has a maximum range of 100km before needed another recharge as it is electric. This design is ideal for a Parisian as they may not need to travel long distances and the vehicle itself does not take up a lot of space in a cramped city like Paris. The price is also a lot cheaper than a car with a price range of €6,990 to €8,490.

Interactive Urbanism

On November 18th the third album of the French Rapper Orelsan releases his third album and for the occasion he proposed a little ‘one-day’ game to his fans.

He offered to the people who took the best pictures in this same bus stop promoting their album the opportunity to come in the studios to listen to the final mastering of the album before it release.

Even if it is was quick, it was a good way to have people interacting with Paris’ urban design. I think it would be interesting if more events like that would be organized in Paris like the treasure hunt of the Nuit Blanche or the photobooth exibition at Palais de Tokyo.

bamboo cup

this is bamboo cup in the musee des arts decoratifs.

in this museum, this is in the section of tromph e’oeil as a decorated cup.

however, it is really interesting to me because people use real bamboo as bowl or cup in asia.

i think some characteristics could be changed in to decoration based on culture.
